چکیده

We introduce an extended model for view-centric reasoning, EVCR, that provides more comprehensive and flexible abstractions for representing actual concurrency. The theory of Communicating Sequential Processes (CSP) provides an interleaved semantics for reasoning about concurrency through a sequentialized trace of events recorded by an idealized observer. The theory of View-Centric Reasoning (VCR) extended CSP with notions of parallel events and views, and lazy observation, to represent the true concurrency of simultaneous events and multiple, possibly imperfect observers. But VCR could be more general still, since its events, like those of CSP, are instantaneous. This restriction precludes the possibility of observing events that partially overlap in time. EVCR permits partially overlapping events to be observed and recorded by a lazy observer. The result is a more general model of concurrency; one that is more appropriate for reasoning about network functioning and, in particular, grid computation.

A Distribution Method for Solving SAT in Grids

The emerging large-scale computational grid infrastructure is providing an interesting platform for massive distributed computations. In this paper the problem of exploiting such computational grids for solving challenging propositional satisfiability problem (SAT) instances is studied. When designing a distributed algorithm for a large loosely coupled computational grid, a number of grid speci...

Sen - R 9705 1997

The good parallel computing properties of sparse-grid solution techniques are investigated. For this, an existing sequential CFD code for a standard 3D problem from computational aerodynamics is restructured into a parallel application. The restructuring is organized according to a master/slave protocol. The coordinator modules developed thereby are implemented in the coordination language MANI...

A Gridding Method for Solving Bayesian Sequential Decision Problems

This paper introduces a numerical method for finding optimal or approximately optimal decision rules and corresponding expected losses in Bayesian sequential decision problems. The method, based on the classical backward induction method, constructs a grid approximation to the expected loss at each decision time, viewed as a function of certain statistics of the posterior distribution of the pa...

Parallelization of Littlewood-Richardson Coefficients Computation and its Integration into the BonjourGrid Meta-Desktop Grid Middleware

This paper shows how to parallelize a compute intensive application in mathematics (Group Theory) for an institutional Desktop Grid platform coordinated by a meta‐grid middleware named BonjourGrid. The paper is twofold: it shows how to parallelize a sequential program for a multicore CPU which partici‐ pates in the computation; and it demonstrates the effort for launching multiple instances of ...

Application of Grid computing for designing a class of optimal periodic nonuniform sampling sequences

Designing periodic nonuniform sampling sequences for digital alias free signal processing is a computationally extensive problem where sequential single computer based solutions could easily run for days or even weeks. In order to reduce computation time, the sequential algorithm has been parallelised making it possible to execute parts of the calculations on different nodes of a computational ...
